I’m Katharine, I’m a senior creative designer with over 15 years of professional industry experience.
I’ve struggled at times to pin-point an appropriate title for myself. I studied graphic design at the well-respected University College Falmouth and have been employed as a graphic designer in many excellent design and marketing agencies, so – Graphic Designer. I’ve also art directed photoshoots, written copy and generated many original creative campaign concepts too, so – Creative. In my agency life, I’d muscle my way into creative briefing sessions, sidle up to planners and account managers, always curious to understand the what, why, where and who questions behind the briefs I’d receive. I’ve worked in tiny, scrappy studios with all-hands-on-deck policies, so I’ve done my fair share of art working and tea making too. I’ve also worked directly with clients, both in agency and as an independent to get to the bottom of the challenge and to really get a feel for the brief. And with an excellent knowledge of strategic marketing in the retail environment, I’ve been brought into companies to; win pitches, secure new clients and lead workshops.
So that’s me; a senior strategic creative, art working, client managing, graphic designer / creative consultant.
Right now I work from my home studio in the town of Conflans-Sainte-Honorine, a beautiful town that despite being a stone’s throw away from Paris, has its own distinct identity. Sitting on both the Seine and Oise rivers, it is a beautiful town full of markets and riverside wine bars. Now, I work as an independent creative here, offering my services to a wide range of clients from all over the world including the various branches of the United Nations.
Before my move to France, for more than a decade I lived in London. My work in London took me to many different locations and agencies; scrappy Shoreditch studios, shopper marketing outfits in Clerkenwell, multinational agencies in Covent Garden, in-house departments in Richmond, slick Soho offices and even a spell designing in an old treacle factory in west London. My experience working at such a variety of agencies, and my ability to adapt my approach to suit the needs of a wide range of clients and briefs, has taught me lots and serves me well to this day.
I studied in the Cornish seaside town of Falmouth. Falmouth is a great spot to spend 3 years, it also happens to have an excellent design school with a very well regarded graphic design degree course.
My origins though are in the stupefyingly creative city of Bristol where I was born and raised. I like to think that this vibrant city ignited my creative spark.
Here are some of the companies and organisations I have designed for:
